Myotherapist / Remedial Massage Therapist
Mia is a Myotherapist with a love for health and movement.
Mia has a special interest in sports injuries, rehabilitation, women’s health, and pain science.
Mia is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals by implementing a range of individualised treatment techniques to promote health, recovery, and general wellbeing.
Growing up competing in sports, Mia found her love of Calisthenics at a young age which introduced a number of positive experiences in health, wellbeing, movement, and manual therapies. This eventually led Mia to begin her studies in a Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Myotherapy) at Southern School of Natural Therapies, where she is currently in her final year.
Mia has a passion for movement and believes a patient centered treatment approach is more than just alleviating pain. It’s about helping you find your ideal lifestyle while minimising your risk of future injury and pain. Mia enjoys helping her patients remain active and healthy by using a range of techniques such as myofascial release, soft and deep tissue massage, cupping, dry needling and mobility and movement interventions.
Myotherapy service provides evidence-based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions. In addition to manual therapy, a range of evidence based treatment approaches and skills are used to assist with muscular pain and dysfunction.
Treatment consists of a comprehensive assessment to understand you and your pain experience. The initial consultation will usually include a conversation about you and your history, followed by a physical assessment to determine your movement quality and functional capacity. We will discuss relevant factors that are important to you and your recovery goals and work together to create the best treatment plan for you going forward. The first treatment will aim to control symptoms so we can begin to get you moving well and strong. Standard follow-up treatments will review your progress and continue to build confidence to move well again.
Treatment encompasses more than merely easing pain. It involves aiding you in discovering a lifestyle that aligns with you while reducing the risk of future injury and pain.
- Will my Myotherapy appointment be similar to a remedial massage? –
The short answer – No.
Remedial massage can be great to control symptoms but won’t necessarily address the underlying causes. Modern understanding of evidence informs us that manual therapy alone is unlikely to be a long term solution to your pain and can lead you to rely on passive treatment alone. We understand that pain and injury is complex and multifactorial therefore effective treatment needs to include a range of active supports to get you back on track and hopefully better than before. Our Myotherapist will discuss the range of treatment options with you to ensure you have the tools to support and lead you to take control of your body and health.
Outside of the clinic you can find Mia out at the beach, in nature going for walk or grabbing a coffee with friends. She is still dancing competitively with her team at Newport Calisthenics Club which keeps her busy during the competition season.
